The 2012 Games will act as a catalyst for the development of sport in the UK. Creating better facilities will leave a legacy for Northern Ireland and maximise the economic and social impact of the Games. Approximately £50m has been provisionally allocated for investment in elite facilities for Olympic sports. This funding is earmarked for infrastructure projects identified as high priority by the Sports Council. The objective will be to have the facilities in place and operational by 2010.
